5 Healthy Kitchen Gadgets to Help You Lose that Muffin Top

5 Healthy Kitchen Gadgets.

Your kitchen can be your ally –or foe– when it comes to losing weight.

One of the best ways to boost your chances of eating healthy and slimming down is to keep your kitchen well stocked. Of course you need the right groceries, but the right kitchen gadgets can save you time and slash calories, plus they’ll help you get the most flavor and nutrition from your food.

Here are top picks for kitchen essentials that will keep you cooking delicious meals all year long. *Note: The products below are NOT paid endorsements. These are my honest-to-goodness favorites for healthy kitchen gadgets.

1. Vitamix Blender

They may be pricy, but Vitamix blenders are in a class all their own. These self-cleaning machines allow you to chop, blend, cream, purée, and more—through every course of the meal—with a single appliance. With commercial quality and unsurpassed engineering, you can buy a Vitamix once and have it for life. I use mine for smoothies, nut butters, soups, dips and dressings.  Instead of a high calorie coffee beverage and pound cake for your afternoon break, make a delicious smoothie.  CHECK OUT SOME OF OUR FAVORITE SMOOTHIE RECIPES HERE.

2. SODASTREAM

Americans drink twice as much soda and other sugary drinks as we did 30 years ago. The average American now drinks 45 gallons of sugary drinks each year — taking in an extra 42 pounds of sugar. I recently discovered the Sodastream machine and it’s now one of my favorite daily kitchen appliances and a great way to slash high calorie and sugary beverages!  I use it to make fresh, fizzy sparking water and fizzy fruit juices (using 1/4 cup or less 100% fruit juice mixed with water).  It’s a great way to make delicious calorie-free and lower calorie beverages.  It also helps save money and it’s better for the environment because there are no “empty” bottles or cans to discard.

3. GEORGE FOREMAN EVOLVE GRILL

One of my all-time favorite kitchen appliances is my George Foreman Evolve Grill.  It has removable plates so you can grill, bake and make mini-burgers, or you can customize the grill further to make omelets or even muffins.

The plates have a nonstick coating so food doesn’t stick to the grill and also they’re sloped to allow excess fat and oils to drain away from your food. This gadget is perfect for fast, healthy and delicious meals.

4. PORTION CONTROL IN A BOWL

Research shows that portion control is one of the essential “ingredients” for sustained weight loss. But with oversized plates and  bowls, it’s all too easy to double or even triple a standard portion size!

For anyone who has ever been confused about portion sizes, Measure Up bowls are the perfect solution.  They have pre-measured portions subtly etched into the interior. So it combines a measuring cup and dining bowl in one. I love these for cereals and pasta… foods where it is so easy to lose control of portion sizes.

5. A SLOW COOKER

A slow cooker is a terrific gadget that inspires me to make delicious and healthy meals.  They’re perfect for making bean-based soups and stews high in cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. They’re also ideal for simmering lean cuts of meat, which are healthier due to their low fat content, but also tougher for the same reason.

  1. I couldn’t afford the vitamix so I bought a Ninja Pro System 1100. It works really good, does everything that higher priced machines except make hot foods.

I love my machine, as I make a smoothie almost every day for either breakfast or lunch. I include broccoli most of the time, unless I run out. I have also used kale and spinach. I buy those, wash and trim, blanch and freeze. I can then add to the blender along with which ever fruit, protein powder I wish. A cup of broccoli is the most I have added and that is a little too filling along with a couple cubes of pineapple. I get my daily requirements of vegetables, fruit and fiber in a meal! Today, I added 2 1/2 ounces of freshly baked sweet potatoes along with broccoli and half an orange!

I’m not a soda drinker, gave up sodas about 6 years ago after having to go gluten-free. The carbonation aggravated me as much as gluten, so in a sense, it was good to stop the sodas.

I love the slow cooker too, I make vegetarian soups and stews along with beans!

I switched to the smaller plates about 10 years ago too, because I would see my family pile food on the really large plates. Now they have to go back for seconds and I also notice they do not eat as much! Instead everyone has leftovers for another meal instead of eating it all at once.

I have the standing George Foreman grill so that I can pull in outside to grill instead of cooking inside. It’s electric, so It can be used in the garage or the house.
