I’ve always like the idea of rotisserie chickens—you know, the kind available at nearly every grocery store. Why? Well, the fat drips right off the food, for one thing, so it’s perfect for lower-fat cooking—especially if you choose to cook poultry or even fish instead of fattier meats. If you choose your seasonings wisely, it can also be a low-sodium way to cook. Finally, I hate to spend time monitoring my food, so having something that does the work for me is perfect. In general, I’ve stayed away from store-purchased rotisserie chicken because I found them to be too salty and seemed to be injected with who-knows-what to keep them juicy. The convenience-factor is hard to resist though, which is why I was thrilled when Ronco sent me one of their collapsible, EZ Store Rotisseries to try out at home.

The Ronco EZ  Store Rotisserie collapses quite a bit, making it easier to store (it’s only 8-inches high when collapsed, so can fit on a shelf or in a deep drawer). Despite its smaller size, it cooks as much as the larger models—a 15-pound turkey can fit in there! It also can do kabobs and other foods including fish and burgers. Ronco also has a new book coming out with lots of rotisserie recipes. I tried out a simple smoked-paprika seasoning mixture that I threw together on my own—the chicken came out nicely browned, with a crispy exterior and juicy interior and boy did my house smell awesome while it was cooking! (And my cat enjoyed watching the bird rotate in the machine, which was a bonus—at least for him.) My little chicken was darn tasty and the rotisserie worked like a charm.

This is a nice appliance for those who like a grilled-type cooking method but aren’t interested in dealing with a grill, or for those with no space outside to grill. This product will be available via the new Ronco website at the end of this month.Ronco rotisserie2

:liked: Ronco – would love a rotisserie – I do like to grill but living in the desert in AZ in the summer it is just too hot to stand outside and cook on the grill and too hot to have the oven on – I use my crockpot and my toaster oven a lot during the hot summer months and would love to try a rotisserie to cook my chicken and try other foods in it too.

We just passed our 10 year old Ronco rotisserie to our daughter with plans to purchase a new more modern version. I cooked everything in it but my favorite is roasted veggies (red peppers, asparagus, cauliflower and broccoli). They come out so good and perfectly charred as if I did them on the grill! It’s just so easy to use and clean-up is a snap. I’d love to win a new one.
