Dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE has written an amazingly useful, info-packed book. “Successful weight loss isn’t about deprivation and hunger. To be successful you have to fuel your body with foods that taste great, keep you full, and are great for you. Belly Fat Diet For Dummies shows you how to do that,” explains Wade.
And yet, the title of this book might mislead you into thinking it’s just another diet book. It’s not…exactly. Yes, it does concentrate more on “belly-related” issues such as which foods to eat to beat bloat and how stress impacts the deposition of fat around the midsection, but it’s more than that. Not only does she present a customizable plan for shedding some fat, she gives the reader 20 chapters (!) of practical tips and information on eating more healthfully—whether for weight loss or not. After all, regardless of whether you’re looking to lose some inches off your waistline, good, healthy eating habits can benefit everyone.
I love how the author has a section on preparing oneself for dietary change, and how she acknowledges that weight is not just about what you put in your mouth. So many people seem to forget this fact. Lifestyle issues such as stress and physical activity, as well as things like heredity and motivation are part of the weight loss equation as well. Stocking a “belly-friendly” kitchen, how to read nutrition labels, meal plans and of course, recipes, round out the book. Palinski-Wade (pictured at right) covers a lot of ground with this book, so there is something for everyone to learn and utilize on their road to improved health.
