Appetite for Health is keen on quinoa, and we can always use more recipes that feature it. We figure that you all could use some help in the quinoa cookery department, too. We’re giving away 5 copies of The Complete Idiot’s Guide Quinoa Cookbook. See below for details on how to win! (This cookbook retails for $18.95).
Quinoa is one of those things that everyone has been talking about, but not everyone knows what it is. It’s not a grain (though it resembles one)——it’s a seed. High in protein and easy to cook (it’s also gluten-free), quinoa deserves a place in your pantry. Quinoa is also highly versatile—its mild flavor can find a place in all kinds of dishes. Plus, it has an appealing, slightly crunchy texture. Properly cooked quinoa should not be mushy.
Now, about the book! Author Susan Irby has delivered a book packed with 250 recipes for everything from breakfast foods, to wraps, appetizers, salads, soups, stews and even desserts. There are also over 20 celebrity chef recipes sprinkled throughout the book. (I’ve posted a sample recipe from the book below–something perfect for a hot summer night.) The Complete Idiot’s Guide Quinoa Cookbook also includes cooking and baking tips for making the perfect quinoa every time, as well as a brief history of this ancient seed.
1. Rinse and drain quinoa.
3. Turn off heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving
