Win an Applegate Hot Dog Prize Pack!

AG hotdog glamour 2July is National Hot Dog Month and in honor of that (plus the fact that lots of folks have hot dogs on their minds around July 4th), we’re giving away Applegate Super Natural Hot Dog prize packs (a $120 value) to five lucky Appetite for Health readers! Get the entry info, below…

If you’ve got plans to fire up the grill and throw on a few dogs over the Fourth of July, now might be a good time to investigate exactly what’s in the hot dogs you typically purchase. That’s it, go ahead and look at the label; I’ll wait…..  Ok, if you’re not pleased with what you saw on that label, consider making an informed hot dog purchase next time. There are options out there—you don’t have to settle for hot dogs that are filled with fillers and unpronounceable ingredients, meat of questionable quality, or huge amounts of sodium and fat.

And, while we’d never be ones to suggest that eating hot dogs every day is the most healthful way to eat, we will suggest that when you do want to have a hot dog, it’s a good idea to choose wisely. Applegate Farms just launched www.whatsinyourhotdog.com, where folks can check out info about hot dogs and their ingredients, and watch some pretty funny videos on the subject, too! Applegate is proud of their hot dog pedigree: their dogs are made from animals that were never given antibiotics or hormones, and boast a simple ingredient list. Their hot dogs also have about half the calories and fat of most conventional dogs (and less sodium).

Want to win one of five Applegate Super Natural Hot Dog prize packs (each a $120 value)? Here’s what you’ll get if you win:AG Prize package

  • 5 coupons (with a $10 value each) to purchase Applegate products
  • An Applegate “I Love Meat” t-shirt
  • Applegate cooler tote
  • Applegate baseball cap
  • A copy of Farm Anatomy, by Julia Rothman

To enter to win an Applegate hot dog prize pack, “Like” AFH on Facebook and “Like” Applegate’s Facebook page, www.whatsinyourhotdog.com. Then, in the comment section below, tell us what you like best about eating hot dogs in the summertime. Enter by midnight on July 4th, pls. Good luck, and happy July 4th!

I love eating hot dogs in the summertime because it’s fast to make and easy to eat. It doesn’t get too hot like soup and it’s not tasteless like salads. I love that I can put a lot of condiments on it like ketchup, mustard, relish, and jalapenos. I can eat it alone or with a bun. And it tastes so good grilled and summertime is the best time to have grill and have a party in the backyard.

  2. There’s hotdogs – and there’s Applegate Farms hotdogs. I like to know what is in my hotdogs and if it is healthful. Applegate answers that question.

The best thing about eating hot dogs in the summer is that it brings back lots of childhood memories. My family always grilled out in the summertime when I was a child. Eating hot dogs brings back tons of memories of my life. Hopefully my kids will be able to eat hot dogs when they are older and bring up memories of their childhoods.

Great giveaway! Thank you for hosting. Good luck everyone.

Hot dogs are perfect in the summer because they are easy to eat while camping and they are so versatile! Yum Yum!!!

  10. Hot dogs are quick to prepare and don’t heat up the kitchen. I love that Applegate products have no unnecessary ingredients and the farm animals are humanely raised- that is important to me. That is what I like best about eating Applegate hot dogs in the summertime! In fact, there is a package of Applegate natural beef hot dogs in my fridge right now!

  11. michele malone says:

I like you both! when I was a kid, we had a pool & would swim daily. ab least 3 days of the week, my grandmother would have hot dogs waiting for us when we got out. the best thing about eating a dog in the summer is going back to those memories of eating one with my cousins, still in our suits and wrapped in towels.

  12. FB fan / like both. My FB profile:
    http://www.facebook.com/janice.wei.39

It wouldn’t be summer without Hot Dogs,, hot off the grill,, on a bun with mustard,,maybe add some onions, relish,, whatever else,,baked beans,, corn on the cob,,the Perfect Summer meal,, just like I ate as a child !!

  14. Michelle Egan says:

Loved a great dog as a kid!!! Whether it was at a baseball game or at our backyard family BBQs…brings back so many memories of summers growing up. As an adult, though, after learning about processing and chemicals I would never eat or serve my family a commercial hot dog. I actually commented on your recent post about the different hot dog brands wondering why Applegate Farms brand wasn’t on your list because they are so tasty. This is wonderful!! Now I feel so much better knowing this brand is AFH approved!! Thanks : )

  15. Julie A says:

Hot dogs are great in the summertime! I love grilled hot dogs and my niece loves overgrilled ones. They are easy to make and child friendly. You can add lots of things to them too! Happy 4th! :D

  16. I love hot dogs all year long, but there is something about standing on the sidewalk in front of your favorite cart with the warm sun in your eyes, the relish and mustard dripping off the bun………I am a transplanted New Yorker who is always at odds to find a place that sells dogs the “real” way, with mustard, relish, onions, and of course, SAURKRAUT! Did I spell that right? If I can’t get to New York, I hit the cart at Home Depot in Hollywood. Eating a hot dog standing is the only time my brain stops running in circles and I lose myself in the moment of my favorite pasttime………..eating a hot dog, all by myself.

  17. I like it in the summer time because it’s a great way to whip up lunch or dinner and spend most of the time with family and friends.

  18. I love eating hot dogs because it brings back so many happy childhood memories!! I like both on FB!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  19. whats best is they are easy to cook on the grill- not too filling- just right and taste oh so yummy…there are so many ways to top but truly a great hotdog needs only one thing great taste- who needs buns- just stab on fork and munch- fingers crossed for this one

i love when they get a little char on them (not too much) and split open, perfect for holding more homemade chili!

  24. Heather A says:

The best part about summertime hot dogs? Eating them outside and enjoying the weather. Not needing a plate for them; having just a bit of char-grilled on the outside, and the inside splits open – perfect cooking. Always able to make a side of anything to go with it – cold fruit, or a warm piece of corn!

Hot dogs are just part of summer – it was always when we would grill them when I was a child, and eat them on the outside patio.

The best thing about eating hot dogs in the summertime is that it can be done outdoors on the grill, so I don’t have to heat up the kitchen by cooking during some of the hot summer days, like we are having now, with temps over 100 for the past four days! They are great to have out by the pool, and great finger food w/ no utensils required :)

My family had to stretch a teacher’s salary to feed five, and hot dogs were a part of our “hurry up and fix dinner everybody has to be somewhere and we all brought a friend home” meal plan. It was easy to throw another dog on the grill or in the skillet when my brothers and sisters showed up with a gaggle of friends in tow. It always felt like a little holiday when we got to celebrate with one of my favorite treats. My Dad really loved them too.

I love eating hotdogs anytime of year they are so easy and filling. But what makes them the best in the summer is they are fast to make for my family. I love that there is so many ways to eat them on bread, bun, plain etc the list goes on. My favorite is grilling them for awhile and letting them get juicy and delicious. Plus, is they are super easy to cook you do not even have to worry about heating the temperature in the summer. With heat being the way it is we do not need to help it haha. Yum. This makes me want to make a hot dog down…wish i had some. Hint Hint :)

  102. Janelle says:

Hot dogs and summer…..kind of synonymous. The hot dog remains, but through the years the toppings change. As a kid – ketchup. As a teen – we’ll try mustard. As a young adult – chili all the way. Adult – better grade hot dogs, whole wheat buns, and fresh onions from the garden. Can’t wait to see what the next phase is, but the hot dog will ALWAYS remain!!

  103. Stephanie K says:

With 4 boys we go through a lot of hot dogs! We love to roast them over the bonfire in our backyard. We actually have bonfires all year long. Summer bonfires are so fun because after we get a little toasty from the heat we’ll go cool off with a dip in the pool. There is nothing better than roasting a hot dog and good conversation around the fire. Of course you always have to end it with a roasted marshmallow to make a good bonfire complete.

  104. Julie S says:

Hot dogs can be boiled, roasted, grilled, cooked over a bonfire, cut up in beans or sauerkraut, in a bun or not in a bun, etc, etc. They can be topped with just about anything – ketchup, mustard, spicy mustard, relish, pickles, onions, kraut, slaw, coney sauce, etc, etc. What other food is so versatile?? And no matter how they are cooked, served or topped they are always delicious!
