It’s the 25th Anniversary of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To celebrate, we’re providing posts about what we can all do to reduce our risk through diet and exercise. In addition, we’re organizing great Freebies all month long that are not only good-for-you, the brands also support breast cancer research and education.
Today’s Freebie is one of our all-time favorite kitchen gadgets: SodaStream.
Here’s why this is one of the best gadgets for your health (breast health included!). We all get too many calories from “empty” liquid calories, including sodas, fruit beverages, energy drinks and alcoholic beverages. Studies show that excess liquid calories may contribute to weight gain, which is a risk factor for breast cancer. In addition, some evidence suggests that alcohol increases one’s risk for the disease too.
SodaStream helps you make better-for-you soda or fizzy seltzers, juice spritzers or mocktails. These nifty carbonator machines turn tap water, juice or any other beverages and make them fizzy. I love my SodaStream because I drink seltzer everyday and don’t like to have to buy bottles of seltzer and have to deal with the empties. I find that with my SodaStream I actually drink a lot more calorie-free water on any given day.
And now through next year, SodaStream has made available limited edition SodaStream Pink Fizz machines. For every machine sold, 5% of the proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation to help save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Three Appetite for Health readers will win one of the limited edition SodaStream Pink Fizz Machines (SRP, $149.99). This healthy soda maker features patented Fizz Chip technology that monitors the amount of CO2 remaining in the carbonator (which powers the home soda maker) and also indicates the carbonation level in the soda (light, medium or extra-fizzy). Winners will be announced on Saturday, October 8 on our Facebook page.
