my best tip is if you don’t like water try adding some lemon..or some mint or both.I make it a point everynight to make a pitcher of lemon water and put in fridge- first thing in am pour a refillable cup…my goal is that pitcher each day and seeing it out and ready encourages it more- fills me up and helps me eat less. Also put away big dishes and use salad plates- you will eat less…I could say don’t buy the junk and you won’t have it to grab but thats just logic- learn self control.

  2. Suzanne says

My best tip is to keep a food diary and plan all your meals ahead of time, so it lessens the chance of straying from healthy food. :)

  3. Tricia Cable says

  4. Christine N. says

  5. Grace Lin says

My best tip is to be MINDFUL of everything! Whether it be grocery shopping, physical activities, or eating. Be smart when shopping; go for natural items and stay away from processed foods. Check those ingredients and nutrition labels! Exercise is great, but know your limits. You don’t want to over exert yourself to an injury, which would prolong inactivity. Find healthier alternatives to incorporate into your day (i.e. biking or walking instead of driving). And finally, watch your portion sizes when you eat. Don’t fall for the whole “I have to eat everything on my plate” idea that our society hammers into our heads. Eat until you are satisfied! Use the tips they give here, like use small plates :)

  6. says

My best tip is to keep healthy snacks around – fruit, cut-up veggies, etc. That way, when you have a craving, you have something there to eat instead of filling up on sweets or other items!

  7. Heather says

Track what you eat. You don’t realize how often you snack until you record it.

  8. Lisa Voss says

My healthy tip is to stay positive, for a positive attitude makes you want to make healthy choices when it comes to living, such as eating healthy and keeping your body in motion. Always keep moving, even if you don’t think you are doing anything, a little goes a far way. I would definately say drink lots and lots of water to stay hydrated and fresh and reduce non-hunger pains. However, the one point that many people forget or don’t live up to is getting enough sleep….without proper sleep, you will feel sluggish, look sluggish, and make very poor decisions when it comes to eating!!!

My best workout tip is…look good while you workout. What I’m saying is buy some workout clothes that you feel and look good in. Since switching to a vegetarian diet my health has drastically improved. Two weeks ago we were hit with an F3 tornado and due to loss of power and rotting produce I was forced like everyone else to eat from a bag, my energy level dropped dramatically. Two days ago with the strom damage mostly mitigated I returned to my healthy vegetarian diet and I feel so much better. I missed my new and improved lifestyle and god willing I won’t be going back to a drive-thru ever again!

P.S. We love Better Oats, have turned my mom onto them and now she has a box of every flavor. No more Quaker here folks.

When I go out to eat, I always order water with my meal, not only is it healthier but saves you money too :)

  47. Cheryl Christian says

My best tip that I have been using alot is to order as usual in restaurant, then only eat half of the portions, taking the other half home to eat for another meal. Not only do I leave the restaurant feeling full, but I also don’t feel so stuffy that I feel sick trying to get my money’s worth. Plus I have a whole other meal to eat and have saved on a lot of calories too.

  48. Wendy says

We have a decorative little table by the door which is very convenient when you’re running late so you can just grab a banana or apple on your way out.

  61. Lisa Eyten says

My best health tip is to walk for at least 30 minutes every day, and drink plenty of water

  62. Melanie Parker says

The best tip I’ve got is regarding children. Although this is HARD, the best thing is to NOT have all those bad foods in the house. If they aren’t there, the kids are more likely to eat the good stuff that is there. For example, my 2 older kids were raised this way. Along comes the 3rd child and the dad decides we should have ‘snacks’ in the house. Don’t know what all those carrots, apples, celery and peanut butter were…. Anyways, my son won’t touch any of this stuff until we run out of the stuff dad buys. THEN he’ll break down and eat healthy.

  66. Jennifer says

I recommend before a larger meal always drinking a full 8 oz glass of water. Not only does this make sure you always get the water you need throughout the day, but you won’t eat as much in one setting. I also prefer to eat smaller “meals” throughout the day. Usually 5-6 small healthy snacks(fruit, crackers, raw veggies, ect) and a big breakfast and a decent dinner. Keeps energy going and keeps me from grabbing a bag of chips or candy.

  67. Marilynn says

To make my oatmeal have even more healthful benefits and to help flush out the cholesterol, I purchase some bulk oat bran and add it to my bowl before I microwave my morning cereal.

Starting your day with a nutritious breakfast is key, as is exercise! I know this, I was never a big breakfast person but bought a box of Better Oats Strawberry last fall and began having them each morning. Over the course of the winter, without any additional changes to my diet or exercise, I dropped 15 pounds and went from a 34″ waist to a 31″ (could fit in 30″) waist. I’ve always been in good shape but wanted better and I definitely saw the results by adding Better Oats to my day. It is now May and I am still beginning my day with Better Oats Oatmeal (Strawberries & Cream or Berry Blast). I am now a believer in starting my day that way. I feel better, my pants are looser

Make sure your diet doesn’t consist of constant deprivation. Always reward yourself in little ways: glass of wine, something sweet for those with a sweet tooth, a *small* order of french fries once a week. That way you have something to look forward to and are not always feeling deprived.

My health tips are pretty standard. It’s important to eat breakfast, drink a lot of water through the day, and take a multi vit. + some supplements daily. I don’t like oatmeal, but I saw the Better Oats (Raw) at the store last year and thought my Mom would love it. She’s been a healthy eater her whole life, and has encouraged me to eat healthy also. She loved the Raw Better Oats and asked for more. I ended up buying one with added stuff that she wasn’t interested in, so I ate it. I don’t like oatmeal, but I love Better Oats, go figure? I add either chopped apples and cinnamon or smushed bananas before I microwave it. I cook it longer than suggested and it tastes lik apple or banana bread. I think it’s important to drink a lot of water to flush things through my body and have found that the duration of illnesses shortened (such as a cold). I take the vitamins and supplements daily as it’s important to get enough of the nutrients and I don’t believe it’s possible to do this though eating alone (especially with Vit. D3).

My health tip is eat small frequent meals rather than big bulky ones, stay away from processed foods, drink a good amount of water, and exercise as much as possible (even if it´s just a neighborhood walk with your dog). A book I read recommends eating as much as you want as long as it´s mostly fruits, veggies, and nuts(which better oats is two out of three). I believe there´s a lot to that because with those three groups fill you up, and they have way more benefits than disadvantages. If we all had active lifestyles and jobs, read books rather than watched tv, went outside, and ate and drink what the earth naturally provides, health wouldn´t be such a concern.

Pretty simple: Drink lots of water! Cut out candy/chocolate, I still have my 1 cup of coffee in the morning but I balance that with a walk every day with my kiddos :)

  249. Joe Hughes says

Make every movement count! When you have to reach down to get something, do it in squat formation. Dance through making dinner. Feel your muscles contracting & releasing through your stroll through the supermarket. Realistic, functional, & mindful everyday fitness is achievable for anyone, while getting to a gym may be a far-off dream for many lifestyles!

  250. Emily N. says

My best health tip is to use a heart rate monitor when working out because you can modify your exercise to get into the fat burning range and lower your intensity if your heart rate is too high so you don’t tire out as easily.

  252. Cassandra says

My health tips are simple, there is no miracle cure to staying healthy. Eat right, and get your heart rate up at least 5 days a week with movement. Exercise is best! Drink half your body weight in water, it keeps you hydrated and helps curb hunger!

  253. Marilynn says

Do at least half an hour of exercise at least 5 days a week. Make your walk brisk if that is what you choose to do. And drink lots of water!

  254. Carli says

My best health tip is to cook healthy meals from home. Fast food is so horrible for you and it’s expensive too!

  255. Karina Zehr says

My best health tip is getting enough sleep. I think when I’m running on empty and tired I don’t do good things for myself. Instead I lay around or eat bad.

  256. Rachel says

Take a couple hours at the start of the week (maybe on Sunday or on Saturday) and prep healthy snacks and meals before the craziness of the week starts. Pre-cutting veggies and fruits and storing them in produce containers makes them easily accessible for snacks and meals and makes you less likely to grab junk food to munch on or pair with dinner.

  257. says

I think my two top health tips are drink LOTS of water and if you’re worried about calorie intake, write it down. Every single bite.

  258. Jen says

I think the best health tip I can come up with is to never stop working toward being healthier. Even if you take very tiny steps, never stop taking them.

  259. Diane says

Before eating, ask yourself “Why am I eating?” If its for nutrition, enjoy! If its because you are trying not to deal with emotions like anger, depression, or loss of control, put down the food and pick up the phone. You’ll be amazed at how much weight you will lose, both physically and emotionally.

  260. Lauren says

Take a walk! Just 20 minutes a day can help you relax, clear your mind and get your muscles working.

Best health for me and my family consists of good balance. There are many things that fall into balance for me such as adequate rest, eating healthy, exercise, outdoors, spirituality, service, connection with others. These all play an important role in how I feel throughout the day. I am a food science major and try to always feed my family healthy and nutritious foods on a daily basis. I was also taught by my Mom growing up to try to always eat the 4 Food Groups with each meal (back then that’s what the food pyramid was). We love oatmeal and cereals and have it for breakfast or a nighttime snack before bed a few times per week. I find that when I hit all the things that I need for balance in my life on a daily basis, I’m doing great! Thank you.

  265. Gail Springsteen says

I try to eat balanced meals and get in lots of fresh fruit and lots of veggies. Snacking on fruits and veggies can make the day so much easier in terms of not overeating on bad stuff! I also try to log what I eat most days, and I’ve finally become pretty successful at it. That helps me find pitfalls and encourages me to eat well cuz I have to “fess up” to myself if I don’t! I also try to get lots of fiber–it’s filling and satisfying and good!

  266. Alison M says

Don’t buy food that you will feel bad about eating. If you have it in the house, you will eat it! If you don’t bring it home, you can’t eat it.

  267. says

My health tip: Eat balanced meals and eat them more slowly so you know when you’ve really eaten enough. Enough? If you can fit it in between your slightly cupped hands, that’s enough to fill up your stomach. Eat every 3 hours or so, but make every other meal a lighter one. And don’t eat when it’s close to bedtime.

  268. Kelly says

For me the best thing I can do is to fix breakfast first thing in the morning. If I don’t do this, I get busy, put it off, and things just go downhill from there. What easier way is there on busy mornings than to fix Better Oats?

  269. Karen Painter says

My health tips are give up smoking, watch the booze and cut down on sugary foods and drinks.

  270. Michelle Stauss says

Health tips- there are SO many, but most prevalent one for me right now is: If you suffer from gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance maintain a strict gluten free diet! Don’t cheat, its not worth it. :) Plus its not as difficult as it once was with so many stores and brands carrying and making gluten free products. You can enjoy being gluten free! :)

My health tip is to enjoy what you are doing! if you don’t like the exercise program you are doing, chances are you are not going to stick with it. If you don’t like the type of diet you are working on, tweak it to fit your needs. Have fun, and motivate yourself by setting small goals to be celebrated at the end of each success!

  282. T says

Park your car close to where you enter the lot or midway between stores you plan on shopping so you can walk to each store. Always bring your buggy all the way back to the store, not the buggy corral. Save some gas and get your exercise!
