Super-Size-Me to Snooki-Size-Me

I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I even know who “Snooki” is, but in my defense, my guilty pleasure is reading Us Magazine when I’m traveling.

If you’re in the know,  Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is  one of the cast of Italian-Americans on MTV’s The Jersey Shore, where she and her other twenty-something cast mates fist-pump, throw punches and show lots of skin while getting drunk or tanning.

Pint-sized Snooki is known for her hair pouf and love of, in her own words, Guidos. On the show, Snooki is often getting slizzered or is totally snookered. She’s been arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct, has fallen off her bike with beer bong in hand, and even has a signature drink, the Scooby Snack.

At 4’ 9,” Snooki isn’t shy about her weight woes and how hard it is to maintain her ideal weight. She says she’s gained about 10 pounds from all the partying, and at 110 pounds, wants to get back to 100 pounds.

For fun, I ran the metabolic calculator and found that Snooki (4 9”, 110 pounds and 22 years old) comes out with a 1,200-calorie basal metabolic rate. Factor in some light exercise and her overall calories cannot exceed 1,800 calories a day—without gaining a pound. To lose weight, she’d have to follow a diet of about 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day, which isn’t much.

I am fairly certain Snooki can drink 1,200 calories a day!

The smaller you are, the fewer calories you can eat. It’s one of the main reasons why women gain weight more easily than men and we have a harder time losing it. But, if you’re petite, it’s even harder. With portion sizes have swollen to up to seven times what they used to be in the 1950s, women of all sizes are finding it hard to keep the scale headed south.

Fast food burgers, fries and sodas from chains like McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King are among the worst portion-distortion culprits with their offerings that can easily pack in a day’s worth of calories in a single not-so-happy meal.

See how quickly our Super-Sized Portions Take A Bite out of Snooki’s 1,200 Calorie Diet
1 McDonald’s Angus Deluxe Burger with Medium Fries @ 1,130 calories
3 ½ Scooby Snacks @ 350 calories each
3 ½ Starbuck’s Grade Mochas @330 calories each
2 ½ Beer Bongs (filled with three regular beers)
1 ½ Big Gulps @ 800 calories each
1 serving Olive Garden Spaghetti and Italian Sausage @ 1,200 calories

  1. Great post! Both funny and fascinating. I would not have guessed that the calories in all of those items would add up so quickly!

  2. Why in the world would anyone expose their lives on film to be remembered for the rest of their lives. It’s obvious that some people are fame hunger. And Snooki, you’re not that pretty. Give it up.
